Massive Protest in LaBrea:
Fed up residents of La Brea yesterday staged a surprise protest by blocking roadway access to and from the southwestern peninsula.
Angry residents moved at the crack of dawn and placed a number of tyres, tree trunks and other debris on fire making it impossible for vehicular traffic to navigate. This protest came as a result of the government's failure to address the areas problems, such as roads and infrastructual development in the area. This action was well planned since the residents played and outsmarted the efforts of the police trying to clear the roads by the continuance of the trash.
Employees of Trinmar Ltd and Atlantic LNG among others, together with school teachers and students were unable to get to their destinations. The protest terminated at around 1.30pm after a visit from the relevant government officials.

Also on the agenda is the construction of the Point Fortin Hospital among other issues pertaining to the administration's favouritism in its development of the country's infrastructure. Point Fortin Celebrations begin:
The Point Fortin Borough Corporation kicked off its 2012 Celebrations at Victor Chin Kit Park, Point Fortin last night with the sweet sounds of pan.Despite the failure of the Government and the Minister of Arts and Multicultuism to assist the corporation with the Project. According to mayor Clyde Paul, Minister Winston (Gypsy)Peters promised to promote the festival as a Tourist attraction because of its variety. Once again it shows the PP's failure to support the Point Fortin residents because of its demographics and its voting history as was promised in their election campaign in 2010.
It is evident that the Peoples Partnership intends to spend the country's income in three areas, which are Chaguanas,Couva and Debe/ Penal, whereas the township of Point Fortin has been a major contributor to the nation's economy since the1800's' and have been short changed by this Administration since they came into office. Because of these and other factors we strongly support the call made by the President of the OWTU Mr.Ancel Roget and the joint Trade Union Movement for the residents of Point Fortin to come together and shut down the town until the government makes good on its promises with the same urgency that is given to the chosen areas.
A special thank you to the Atlantic LNG and other Businesses for their contribution in making this year's celebration a reality.
Ancel Roget OWTU President addresses the meeting, rips up PP's 2010 manifesto.
" SHUT IT DOWN!!
Ancel Roget, President of the OWTU , at a joint Trade Union meeting held on Friday April 13th at Victor Chin Kit Park, Point Fortin called on the residents of the town to come together and shut down the town to protest the failure of Government to p-rovide the nescessary improvements and facilities promised in their 2010 election manifesto. Roget who indicated that the union would no longer support the PP under the PM, also said that they would seek to remove the PP before their term expires in 2015. Mr. Roget in his address told the meeting "We must be prepared to get off our laurels and go to Port of Spain and deal with our issues. We must be prepared on a day to be announced to to shut down Point Fortin, close it down so that nothing goes or comes not even a helicopter into the town until they address thee issues in a meaningful way, he also made specific mention to the proposed 100 bed hospital which was scheduled to be constructed sighting that it was not adequate for the town because of its industrial make-up. Also addressing the matter was activist Earnest Thompson who spoke on the unemployment situation in the borough because of the government's decision to suspend the CEPEP programme in the area which has been linked to the election of the PNM by its residents. Also commenting on the issues was Jamal Pierre representing the LaBrea youths who also questioned Government's decision the build a Childrens Hospital rather than build a General Hospital in the area and the Administration's failure to keep its promises to the residents of the Point Fortin/ LaBrea area
Engineers survey the remains of the stolen Bridge
Thieves Steal Bridge
Lack of employment and desperation have driven young people to take drastic measures to survive in our society. This has been evidenced when thieves stole a Bridge from the South-Central Road in Point Fortin. The Bridge was dismantled and the steel taken to be sold as scrap iron by the thieves who posed as workers of the Ministry of Works complete with official looking road signs. Point Fortin Police are continuing the investigations.
Health Minister Addresses Hospital Issue:
Once again Health Minister Dr. Fuad Khan has announced that lands for the proposed rebuilding of the Point Fortin Hospital have been acquired. The Minister apparently forgot that he made this statement previously and that his last report to the community was that the necessary funding was not yet appropriated, and that the project was to be started this month. Also in his address to the media he also called on the SWRHA to immediately provide the existing facility with 24 hour services in the Xray and Pharmacy services together with a CT Scan Machine.Addressing the Cedros Health crisis, the Minister said that it was not cost effective to have that facility operate on a 24 hour basis but the centre would serviced by trained EMT's and full time Ambulance services who will guarantee home visits if needed, to diagnose and transport patients to the Point Fortin Hospital, and that he is looking into obtaining the services of a private physician to provide after hour services.
True Meaning of Incompetence
We are calling on the Government, Commissioner of Co-operatives, and the Credit Union League of Trinidad and Tobago to investigate the operations of the FNCU formally the Point Fortin Area Credit Union, which was totally mishandled by an over zealous and incompetent Board of Directors and poor management, which has led to the crash of a once vibrant and progressive Society. The situation compounded by a lack of knowledge of the basic principles of its operations is responsible for the failure of this Credit Union and its inability to meet the needs of its membership. The Credit Union League of Trinidad and Tobago, the unit's governing body, must share the blame for the collapse of the Hindu Credit Union and the FNCU. This Organization, within recent times, has allowed its members the freedom to explore financial majesty to compete with other financial institutions on a for profit buisness, to be major competitors, in the times of massive restrictions on the world financial stage. These accusations are not based on my thoughts or by heresay, but by the actual experience with the operations and management of the Credit Union and its operation, having served as the President of the Point Fortin CU, Board member of the now defunct Dunlop Employees CU, both of whom merged to form the FNCU, PRO St. Patrick Chapter of CU"S and alternate Director of the Credit Union League of Trinidad and Tobago and was educated under the most successful CEO Mr. Gary Cross whose contributions are unmatched up to this present day, he is also responsible for the success of the Eastern Employees CU. We look forward to the official intervention so that innocent members can retrieve their investments and to see another day.

Kamla and PP keeps Election Promises
Prime Minister Kamla Persad Bissessar and her bunch of clonies are set to use their term in Office to humiliate the areas of the Country that did not support them in the past Elections.Point Fortin in particular have been pushed outside of the
Country so that getting things accomplished is always on the back burner. The residents of this town are frankly fed up with Government's excuses for the not getting these Facilities done. The Point Fortin Area Hospital serves from Icacos to LaBrea on the West to Erin, Puerto Grande to Los Iros on the East and has been scheduled to be upgraded since the early 1980's, with a lot more emphasis since the opening of Atlantic LNG,
The Petrotrin Refinery is just a heap of scrap iron and is an eyesore.
The residents of Point Fortin have gone through enough of these failed promises by the various Administrations now and in the past, and we continue to make bigger sacrifices for the good of this Nation and the Economy without recognition. The Hospital rebuilding process have been scheduled on several occasions but never done because of a lack of funding and that this Government could put large sums of money into building a Regional Government in Chaguanas, a University in Debe not to mention the fact is theALNG Plant is a "ticking time bomb". These projects are ideas that have just been incubated and cannot be placed ahead of the Health and Welfare of people. Former Mayor Victor Chin Kit during his tenure commissioned Coronation Park as the Southwest Stadium but still after 21years we have no Sporting Facilities for our sportsmen and women to use but Stadiums have been built in certain other areas who have never produced a world class performer, and paid for by the income from our products and the fruit of our labor
.Maybe the Residents of Point Fortin consider going to Uncle Hugo for help since we are neglected by our own. These matters needs immediate attention before the bottom falls out and the residents take affirmative to achieve their goals.
Trinidad and Tobago Heading East:
The ruling Peoples Partnership led by Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, flanked by her two "Pitbulls" in the persons of Anand Ramlogan and Winston Deosaran are playing the race card in making Political and Infrastructual Development in Trinidad. This conclusion is gathered from the Government's distribution of the Financial resources given to the various Corporations and County Councils for their day to day operation. The PM's recent trip to India is another indicator of its direction, since the PP has indicated of planned joint ventures and investment opportunities promised to the Government of India because of the PM's ancestry, but efforts by Brasil and Nigeria have not yet been finalized., or been fully investigated. Why the rush to prioritise these promises? Why are certain areas of the Country given priority over others, why must poor people suffer to maintain good health for their family when we spend millions of dollars to modernize a County Council turned Corporation instead of providing decent Health Care for our Citizens? Why relocate the headquarters of the Motor Vehicle Department to Central Trinidad along with relocating the Airport to the same area? I hope and pray that the people open their eyes and take heed to the Social and Economic injustice to other Communities in the Country and to stand up and fight this Demon and bring stability to our Country.
